Harold Pinter

Harold Pinter CBE, CH (*10. Oktober 1930, London) ist ein englischer Theaterautor und Regisseur.

Er hat für Theater, Radio, Fernsehen und Kinofilme geschrieben. Viele seiner frühen Werke werden zum Absurden Theater gezählt.

Pinter wurde in Hackney in London geboren. Er studierte kurz an der Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). Als junger Mann veröffentlichte er Poesie und schauspielte am Theater. Sein erstes Theaterstück, The Room - Der Raum, schrieb er 1957. Im gleichen Jahr begann er mit der Arbeit an The Birthday Party - Die Geburtstagsparty.

1985 reiste er zusammen mit dem amerikanischen Dramatiker Arthur Miller in die Türkei, wo sie Opfer der politischen Unterdrückung trafen. Pinters Erfahrung in der Türkei und mit der Unterdrückung der kurdischen Sprache inspirierten ihn zu seinem Theaterstück von 1988, Mountain Language - Bergessprache.
