Johannes Duns Scotus
Johannes Duns Scotus, englisch John Duns Scotus (* 1266 in Duns, Schottland, † 8. November 1308 in Köln an der Pest gestorben) war ein schottischer Theologe und Philosoph der Scholastik.
Er wurde in Northampton zum Priester geweiht und studierte und lehrte anschließend in Cambridge, Oxford, Paris und Köln. Er war einer der bedeutendsten franziskanischen Theologen und war der Gründer des Scotismus, einer Variante der Scholastik. Da er verschiedene Sichtweisen und Denkrichtungen (z.B. aristotelische Lehren, Augustinismus und Franziskanismus) auf subtile Art miteinander verband wurde er auch Doctor Subtilis genannt. Er wertete Glaube, Wille und Liebe höher als Wissen und Vernunft.
Sein Grab befindet sich in der Minoritenkirche in Köln, in der auch Adolf Kolping beigesetzt ist.
